
RESIDENCIES
At the Matrix-House it is possible to do artistic residencies for a period ranging from a few days to several months.
THE PRINCIPLE
Lending for free, sharing and exchanging are the local sports, in an ecological, creative and social logic. In accordance with the practice of the gift economy, the spaces and tools of the Matrix-House are made available to everyone for FREE. In the background, the primary goal of la Maison-Matrice is to serve the search for new modes of production and diffusion of art, ecological, autonomous and independent, and to support from the bottom up the activities that create links, in the context of the energy and climate crisis and the collapse of the current living world.
PURPOSE OF THE RESIDENCIES
The residencies must have a purpose. People come to the Matrix-House to work on something, to carry out an artistic activity in the broadest sense of the word, i.e. to create connections of all kinds. Simple accommodation, even for a short time, cannot justify a residence at La Maison-Matrice.
SPACE
Residents at Maison-Matrice stay in the Foyer, a 4.5 room flat on the ground floor of the building. Flanked by the river Raus, it offers a livable dining room and a large living room that can be used as a group work room, as well as the option of wood burning. It easily accommodates 7 people, or more depending on the other beds available in the house and the willingness of the residents to share rooms.
On the first floor, an additional 2.5 room flat called the Canopy is available for long-term residencies of up to six months.
Note that pets are not allowed in the main building, we therefore strongly advise owners to place them elsewhere for the duration of their residendy.
ORGANISING A RESIDENCE
To arrange a residency at La Maison-Matrice, first check availability on the dates you wish to stay by looking at the calendars below. NB: depending on the nature and scale of the projects, the house can accommodate several groups of residents simultaneously. Then, contact the Committee by email to check the feasibility and request the reservation. This is the right channel to ask practical/technical/material/special needs questions.

WORKSHOPS & EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE
All residents share a few bicycles, printing and photographic equipment, a washing machine, the varied contents of a Migros unsold food recovery 3x/week and a lot of other small things.
The workshop areas of the Maison-Matrice are still being improved and developed, and their layout is flexible. There is a visual arts/art/sewing workshop, a wood/metal workshop, various lounges with and without piano, several nooks and friendly terraces for writing, exchanging or dreaming, an audio recording studio that allows sound recordings to be made anywhere in the building, a library, a games library, a thrift shop, a multi-purpose room with a screen and projector and several musical instruments, a courtyard, outdoor dining areas, a vegetable garden and a kind of boudoir/smoking room heated by wood.
COUNTERPARTY ? TRANSACTION ? NO! PROPOSAL OF THE FREE GIFT ECONOMY
While the residents go about their projects, they are free to get involved according to their desire, means and skills in the daily affairs of the Association la Maison-Matrice, whose effort aims at making these places available to all. Any contribution is welcome, modest, flamboyant, spiritual, concrete. [SUPPORT/PARTICIPATE]
RESTITUTIONS
If the residents have the interest and pleasure to do so, it is possible to organize a restitution open to the public at the Maison-Matrice (concert, presentation, reading, exhibition, listening session…) during the residency. In collaboration with the residents, the time to be agreed upon for the restitution is communicated on the site and on social networks. The event is offered to the public, in the spirit of the free gift of la Maison-Matrice.
NB: the Maison-Matrice is not a performance hall in the classical sense, no programming in the usual sense is conceived there and it is not possible to perform there as part of a tour for example.
In order to create a bond, the Maison-Matrice is committed to organizing a small weekly “apéro-concert” for the residents of the home for the elderly. The residents are also welcome to offer a small concert for seniors of the village on Fridays from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m., at the Foyer Les Aliziers located 10 minutes walk from the Maison-Matrice.
Finally, a word of advice: ideally, schedule a face-to-face visit before your first residency and an additional two days beyond the minimum time needed to complete your creative project. Deliberate slowness, i.e. time lost or given to allow for your connection with the people, places and “physiology” of this precious and delicate non-commercial socio-cultural project is the guarantee of an optimal progress for all. In haste, we lose depth and quality on many levels.

TO GET MORE INVOLVED
La Maison-Matrice does not maintain and develop of itself. It requires money, a lot of volunteer service time, skills, materials, ideas. All contributions are welcome and we hope that everyone feels free to participate and contribute to the project according to their inspiration, their means and their possibilities. This is the challenge of the Maison-Matrice.
Independently of a possible membership in the association, it is always possible and very welcome to get involved on a one-time basis or on a long-term basis through donations or volunteer work so that Maison-Matrice continues to serve other people and continues to develop. In doing so, one discovers the backstage of a meaningful project, and it is an opportunity to learn about a whole range of subjects, to create links, to stimulate one’s thinking, to invest one’s energy wisely. At the end of their stay and at any time thereafter, residents may become members of the Maison-Matrice Association if they wish to do so [BECOME A MEMBER]. There is no cost for this membership, it simply means joining the General Assembly, the body that runs the association and that meets by zoom and on site at least once a year to follow up the project. A good way to support the project and to be informed from the inside.
